Where professional engineers teach future engineers

Due to personalized feedback and small cohort sizes – Modern University is able to produce higher quality software engineers than coding bootcamps or universities.

About

Where software engineers teach future engineers.

Why are we working on this?

Modern University is driven by the opportunity to help individuals learn more to earn more. Learning code has improved our lives, and we think it will improve yours too. Software engineering offers great salaries, benefits and the opportunity to create meaningful change. With the right support, going from zero-knowledge to hired is relatively fast when compared to other careers.

With no computer science background, Modern University’s CEO, Adam Kearney, taught himself to code and landed a software engineering job with Amazon Alexa.

Modern University’s Chief Product Officer, Sam Blake, was the key to Adam’s success. When Adam was first looking into software engineering, Sam, having attended a well-known coding academy, advised Adam to avoid coding bootcamps. Instead, Sam suggested an alternative: teach yourself using content online while paying mentors for personalized feedback.

Sam supported Adam through the whole process with feedback and advice. As a result Adam landed his very first engineering job at Amazon Alexa doing natural-language understanding on a team of 6 engineers handling questions in 9 different spoken languages.

Since becoming an engineer, Adam has reused Sam’s advice to teach non-technical individuals to code. These individuals went on to get jobs with companies like Amazon, increasing their former salaries by more than 2X.
